Opis

Alexander the Great (356BC-323BC) Perhaps the greatest military general of all time. His conquests extend from Greece to India. Although his empire was short lived, his legacy was to extend Greek culture to the whole of the then civilized world. Was his legacy inspired by the Gordian Knot? An intricate know by which a cart had been tied to a temple for over 100 years. Many had tried and failed to unite it until Alexander arrived. He also tried and failed, but rather than give up he severed the knot with one strike of his sword, thus fulfilling the prophecy that the person who separates the two cords would go on to conquer the world. The phrase 'The Gordian Knot' is now a metaphor for solving an intractable problem by one bold stroke.
