Opis

The Eleven Cities Tour – Elfstedentocht – is the world’s largest ice-skating event and is held in the province of Friesland in the north of the Netherlands. The race is nearly 200 kilometres (120 miles) along frozen canals, lakes and rivers that link 11 historic Frisian cities. There is a speed-skating match – with some 300 contestants – and a leisure skating tour - which can attract 16,000 skaters. The tour can only take place if the ice is at least 15 centimetres (nearly six inches) thick along the entire course. In theory the tour can take place once each winter (generally in January or February) but in practice, because of the requirement of very thick ice, the tour might have a gap of several years between each event. The longest gap (so far) being 22 years. Jan van Haasteren has chosen the famous Eleven Cities Tour as the inspiration for this hilarious, colourful and busy jigsaw puzzle. Most of Jan’s fans will immediately search for his trademark – the shark’s fin – featured in every puzzle. The picture is teeming with visual jokes – from the various methods of reaching the finishing line (who is that bearded man who is about to be disqualified?) to the antics of the spectators and media. This 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle measures 68 x 49cm (approx.) when assembled, and is bound to keep you chuckling as you piece it together.
